Michael Johns Hollywood & Highland Videos

A little over a month ago, Michael Johns performed several songs from his new album Hold Back My Heart in a live concert held at Hollywood and Highland. The concert was meant to celebrate the June 23rd release of his debut album and was in fact performed only two days after the album hit shelves nationwide. It's also available for digital download at Amazon.com and iTunes.

News of this concert was overshadowed that day, as we learned Michael Jackson had just passed away. Now that a respectable amount of time for mourning a great loss to music's history has passed, and some high quality videos of the performance have recently surfaced, I'm happy to share with you Michael Johns live at Hollywood and Highland, performed on June 25, 2009.

My thanks to Lovinthefro09 for uploading most of the following videos. The first video is one posted by scoobyld, in which Michael Johns pays a stunning tribute to Michael Jackson, RIP the King of Pop. This was one of the first tributes to Michael Jackson to be posted to YouTube. All of the other videos, with the exception of "Hold On", are from the new album Hold Back My Heart, by Michael Johns.

Australian Michael Johns Hits Hollywood Video

In searching for more Michael Johns videos from the performance and Meet n Greet held at Atlanta's Tin Roof Cantina last Friday, I ran across this piece of a documentary called Australians Hit Hollywood. Now I knew he was part of the documentary, but I haven't seen any news or videos from the actual documentary itself worth watching until now.

Michael appears for a few seconds in this piece, but I can tell already, the camera loves him. Maybe that love goes both ways, as he looks completely at home and comfortable in front of the camera. Here's hoping they eventually become best friends. For now, I'm happy listening to his new album Hold Back My Heart. You can pick up your copy at stores like Walmart nationwide, or download it from iTunes and Amazon.com. :D

American Idol Finalist Michael Johns - In Tribute And Honor (Video)

(Video courtesy of Cast TV)

In continuing coverage given by news sources from all over the internet, Michael Johns' renditions of "The National Anthem" and "God Bless America" in Anaheim on July 4, 2009 is earning praise. By all accounts, these were some of the best performances of the songs ever heard..

Major League Baseball teams across the nation dedicated themselves to raising awareness and funds for ALS to commemorate Lou Gehrig's farewell speech 70 years ago. Michael Johns was there to pay tribute to America on her birthday, and to further his support in the fight for a cure of ALS.  In honoring others, he unknowingly (and deservedly) earned honor from The Angels for himself.

Here's an excerpt taken from an article posted at their website.
In an effort to raise awareness and financial support for organizations leading the fight against ALS, otherwise known as Lou Gehrig's Disease, the Angels will have American Idol Finalist Michael Johns sing the national anthem before Saturday's game against the Baltimore Orioles.

Johns, an avid supporter of ALS research, has been involved in certain organizations to help the fight against ALS.

In December 2008, he released the song "Another Christmas," with 50 percent of the proceeds going towards ALS research.

"Michael Johns embodies the spirit of this day," Angels entertainment and production manager Pete Bull said. "He loves America and the opportunity he had with American Idol was able to show what we can provide as a nation. He truly loves our country."
The feeling is mutual. Our country loves him as well. Cheers Michael Johns, our "Aussie-American", and thanks once again for everything you do for your fellow man.  Now that the Fourth of July has passed, we'll look forward to your upcoming tour.  Best wishes on your new album Hold Back My Heart.

That's an unusual name for an album from someone who so often gives of yours. :D

"Life Is Okay" For Michael Johns and Brooke White - The NARM Performance Video

NARM (National Association of Recording Merchandisers) held their 2009 Convention last week and was host to some of the best known names in the music business. NARM is a non-profit organization devoted to advancing music by bringing together all aspects of the industry. For deatiled information on what they do, please visit their site.

Michael Johns and Brooke White provided entertainment for the finale event and headlined individual sets as well as joining to perform their duet "Life Is Okay" for the first time since it was recorded for the soundtrack album Don't Look Down. In addition to their performances last week, Daryl Hall and Johns Oates played at the Awards Dinner Finale, held on Wednesday, June 10th. Here's the convention news of Michael Johns and Brooke White as it was published at the NARM website:
Photobucket

These two American Idol alums teamed up recently for the hit single “Life is Okay” for the “Don’t Look Down” soundtrack and will meet again on the NARM stage for the Awards Dinner Finale.
Brooke White turned heads during last season’s “Idol” by delivering breathtaking renditions of songs by the Beatles, Dolly Parton and Neil Diamond. After she sang Carly Simon’s “You’re So Vain,” Simon proclaimed White to be her favorite “Idol” vocalist. Her new album, “High Hopes and Heartbreak,” will be released this summer. Randy Jackson plays Executive Producer on the album.
Michael Johns delivers blue-eyed Soul as it’s meant to be heard. His new album, “Heart On My Sleeve,” due in stores June 16, is devoid of the typical glossy veneer applied to most modern albums, but heavy on vibe. It has a Blues-Country feel, with swelling strings accenting the delectable Pop of the album’s first single of the same title.
Okay, big gig, but not so big on accurate journalism. Michael Johns' new album is titled Hold Back My Heart and it's due out on June 23rd. I'll give them credit for getting the name of the single right. "Heart On My Sleeve" from his debut album is available on iTunes and Amazon.com now!

To hear 30 second clips of all 12 song titles on the album, go to Amazon.com and listen today! If you can't wait to say you own the very best in music, you can pre-order the full CD at Amazon.com!

I was hoping for full videos of their performances last week, but this is what was posted on YouTube. Here's a collection of video clips from the June 10th performance. This video does give you a taste of what to expect from both artists.

Brooke performs her new single, "Radio, Radio" from her debut album High Hopes and Heartbreak. Michael performs "To Love Somebody" also on his debut album in addition to eleven original tunes, and finally the duet we've all been waiting to see. Michael and Brooke sing the duet "Life Is Okay" from the Don't Look Down soundtrack. (an independent album produced by Johns, Foxworth, and Randa).

Michael Johns On MTV News - Video

MTV News correspondent Jim Cantiello interviews Michael Johns (American Idol Season 7 Finalist) and Joel McHale (The Soup) on the red carpet for American Idol Season 8 Finale. It's such a blast just watching the two of them banter back and forth promoting each other shamelessly with mutual respect. The MTV correspondent's job was made easy as Michael and Joel took over the spot while he stood there and watched his "man crushes".

Anyone that follows Michael's Twitter already knows he's a fan of The Soup. Here's his Twitter quote from a few weeks ago regarding the subject in general.
I mean catching up with a best friend then coming home to watch the soup! Is there anything better?
Joel McHale has a new show coming out on NBC titled Community and says Chevy Chase is co-starring in the new series. It sounds hilarious already!  They talked a bit about the show and Michael gave an impromptu audition by exhibiting his fabulous Aussie humor.

How exciting it must've been for him to announce on MTV News that his album set for a June 23rd release. Most all of his fans already know that, but there's just something about MTV that makes music news seem huge! You can pre-order the album Hold Back My Heart from Amazon.com now! Joel McHale is quoted as saying he's 'Excited' to buy Michael's new album, but I've already ordered mine if that tells you anything. :P

His debut single "Heart On My Sleeve" is climbing the charts now and can be purchased at Amazon.com or iTunes today. My thanks to I Heart Pizza for bringing news of the video! Happy Birthday goes out to her too! I should feel bad since it's her birthday and she brings me a gift.

Next time I mention MTV News, I hope it's in reference to a Michael Johns video to go along with his new release. :D

LA Times Reports On Michael Johns Set At The Edison - Videos!

Here's more news from The Los Angeles Times of the American Idol party held at The Edison on May 18th. I've included a couple of excerpts from the original article. To see the full story (written by Richard Rushfield) and check on your Idol, please click on Los Angeles Times.
On finale eve, Idols of years past gather and compare notes
Every May as the world convenes in front of TV sets to choose our new pop despot, a certain college of cardinals gathers around the main stage. For the 80-some singers who have stood on the "Idol" stage before, finale time is like a giant family reunion, a time to reconnect with their comrades in arms, with whom one, two or six years ago they fought through a bloody season and toured the nation before being scattered to the four winds to seek their fates in the swirling tides of contemporary music.
On finals eve, the gathering place of this fabled fraternity was in a off-the-map basement on the opposite edge of downtown from the Nokia. On Monday night, the Edison bar was the scene of the most intimate of "Idol" conclaves as about two dozen Idols past gathered for a party thrown by Fox Radio to celebrate the finals.
The banter paused as another Season Sevener, the great Michael Johns, took the stage for a 20-minute set. Having seen Michael play twice in the last week, one notices what an accomplished and comfortable performer he is becoming, delivering affecting and intimate sets in two very different venues. On this evening, he had a surprise addition to his lineup, a moving version of Beyonce’s “Put a Ring on It” perhaps the cover one would least expect from the Johns band.
Michael, it seems, is one of the busiest of Idols these days. With his new single “Heart on my Sleeve” out and an album to follow shortly, he is perpetually in motion. Last Friday night, he left a show for "Idol"/"So You Think You Can Dance" executive producers Ken Warwick and Nigel Lythgoe’s winery to race back to Akron, Ohio, for a show, returning for this set, after which he was to board a red-eye to Buffalo, N.Y., for another show, at the end of which he was to rush back to be at the results show on Wednesday night.

To see the rest of the article, follow the link above.

I've already included one video from last night, but here's another one that was uploaded by WKRQ102FM. This one includes Michael's performance of the entire Beyonce song 'Single Ladies', but less of the always hilarious Aussie banter at the end. Michael is accompanied by Jeff Foxworth and another guitarist. I'm still hoping to find more of his 20 minute set from last night. Until then, I'll keep posting whatever I can find.

Michael Johns Sings - Boyonce's 'Single Ladies' (WKRQ102FM)

Edited: I told you I'd be back with the rest. :D

Thanks to Will Manning for posting these videos on a message board forum. I knew it was just a matter of time before they started showing up. Both of these songs will be included on Michael's debut album Hold Back My Heart, which will be released on June 23rd, but can be pre-ordered from Amazon.com now!

Michael Johns Performs at The Edison - Video

Here's a video of Michael's performance of Beyonce's 'Single Ladies- (Put A Ring On It)' at a party hosted at The Edison. The articles says Michael performed a number of songs, so I may be back to include some of those if they're uploaded to YouTube as well. In the meantime, credit goes to Jas for finding the first one.
5.18.09- Party At The Edison
May 19th, 2009, by MIX 105.1 Blogging Idol
Just back from a GREAT party at the coolest club in LA, The Edison. It’s an old power plant from the golden days of Hollywood that has been transformed into one of the coolest clubs we’ve ever been to. Lots of Idols from seasons past were in attendance including Syesha Mercado, Jason Castro, Kristy Lee Cook, Blake Lewis, Carly Smithson, Amanda Overmyer, and Brandon Rogers. We were also treated to an impromptu concert by one of our favorite Aussie contestants (actually, the only Aussie contestant we can think of) Michael Johns. He performed several selections from his new CD, but really brought down the house with his cover of Beyonce’s Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It). Check it out below.

Michael Johns Performs At The Villa San Juliette Winery Event

I didn't hear any news on this event until today, but Michael Johns was filmed singing with Kenny Lee Lewis of the Steve Miller Band at the Winery Villa San-Juliette event held on May 15, 2009. My thanks to YouTube member rtorres938 for uploading the following video. The story of the event is after the jump.

American Idol Producers Host Celebrity Wine Dinner

Posted: May 16, 2009 01:28 AM

Updated: May 16, 2009 01:28 AM

5/15/09

PASO ROBLES - Two of the founders of American Idol hit the central coast with an exclusive winemaker's dinner Friday night.

Nigel Lythgoe and Ken Warwick have made their careers behind the bright lights of shows like American Idol and So You Think You Can Dance.

Now they are taking their success to the central coast and making a major investment in wine.

It was a star studded night in Paso Robles as two of Hollywood's most famous producers make their mark on the central coast.

Ken Warwick says, "Its nothing we thought would ever happen. It's one of those things that's high in the sky and you look at a picture in a magazine and think I would like to do that and here we are."

As the wine flowed So You Think You Can dance's Nigel Lythgoe and American Idol producer Ken Warwick helped roll out the Paso Robles wine festival by hosting a winemakers' dinner.

The featured event tasting the fruit of their labor, Villa San Juliette, a premiere wine made here on the central coast.

Nigel Lythgoe says, "This was the best deal for producing the best grapes and that's really important to us. Quality is what we've always dealt with in our TV shows and that's what we wanted to do with the wine. When we came here we thought this looks like the north of England with the rolling hills which made us feel at home and very comfortable."

Kicking off the celebration was former American Idol contestant Michael Johns.

Johns says," it's their first vintage that's coming out and to be asked to sing at it, it's pretty cool."

But for these two childhood friends the dinner is much more than a friendly get together.

It's a lifelong dream that came true on the central coast.
